Creativity.
We have been sold the narrative that creativity is a reward. In classrooms, children are allowed to draw once they’ve finished their work. Adults don’t have time for it because it’s not considered a priority, but a foolish waste of time. Creativity has become the dessert that we don’t often get served. But this narrative is wrong. Creativity is essential to whole human well-being.
“I’m not creative.”
Guess what, you’re wrong! You use your creativity every single day— in the way you fix your hair, the clothes you wear, the way you walk down the street, and how you say hello to your neighbors. Your creativity is your way of being in the world. Your creativity is what makes you YOU. And we need you and your perspective.
You don’t have to produce gigantic oil paintings or write full symphonies to contribute beauty in our lives. Smile at the cashier. Wave at the bus driver. Tell someone how much they mean to you. Share your brilliance with the world.
I love you.
