Empathy | ‘ˈempəTHē |
noun
the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

How can we best empathize with one another? We listen.

We listen without trying to come up with a solution, a remedy, a suggestion for how to get out of the pain. Because we can’t “get out” of the pain. We must get into the pain. That is the only way it can be released.

Empathy is the act of acknowledgement much more than the need to be able to draw upon a similar lived experience. Acknowledging that it happened. Acknowledging that this person felt pain from it. And accepting their truth. Hard stop.

I feel you. I understand you. I see you.
